A 46 year old mother in China gave birth to ‘China’s oldest newborn’ by having a 16 year old frozen embryo impregnated.

The newborn has a 16 year old older brother that came from the same batch of embryos. The embryos were frozen back in 2000.

The mother of the newborn stated: “I'm really just ecstatic to have another child.”

The director of the hospital recalls: "It was not easy to awaken the frozen embryos because of freezing techniques and there were also problems with her womb."

It is much more difficult for geriatric mothers, mothers who are giving birth after 35, to give birth and there is even a special hospital ward for them.

"In 2016, we received about 1,000 women above 40 years old seeking to have more babies, and the average age of women to have their eggs retrieved rose from 32.7 years to 33.7 years," the doctor adds.

There has been a rise in similar births in China after the country dropped its infamous one-child policy for a two-child policy. One Chinese hospital worker says that the oldest embryo they have was frozen in 1994.

The current world record for the ‘oldest baby’ goes to a 20 year old embryo that was successfully impregnated.

The doctors said that the birth was difficult due to the mothers advanced age
