Inter Milan sign former Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin for free.

The Uruguayan defender has decided his time is up at Atletico and has confirmed he will leave the club this summer.

Godin has spent a wonderful nine years at Atletico Madrid and he wants a new challenge before his career comes to an end.

Diego Godín is a Uruguayan international defender who plays as Atlético Madrid former captains and the Uruguay national team's captain.

In August 2007, Godín signed a five-year deal with La Liga side Villarreal CF. On 4 August 2010, after experiencing his best season at Villarreal – 36 games, three goals – Godín joined fellow league team Atlético Madrid on a five-year contract, after the two clubs agreed an initial fee believed to be around €8 million or £6.6 million.

Meanwhile, he has just finished the Copa America with Uruguay, who lost 4-5 to Peru on penalties.
