The leader of the family is Ram Raj Chauhan, who is 52 years old. His sisters, daughters, nephews and nieces all suffer from the syndrome. His two brothers who have since passed on also had it. His wife was normal-sized but passed on in 1993.
Ram says it is difficult to find permanent employment because people think he cannot work. He currently works part time as a wedding receptionist.
It is said Ram's family is the largest dwarf family in Hyderabad, India
Ram also says his family faces a lot of unwanted attention, harassment and teasing. In addition, his daughters, nieces and nephews face the same challenge of securing jobs.
Furthermore, their legs become weaker as they grown older because they are so short, causing them difficulties in walking.
However, he says they have embraced the syndrome and believe the fact that God chose them means they are special.
